Scott agreed that it would be advantageous to include a statement in the Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities indicating that Perianesthesia is not liable for items lost or stolen in the patient lockers. He suggested calling Human Resources and the UCH lawyer. They would inform us about Perianesthesia’s liability and using the correct wordage in the Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities.

Scott Workman, Head of Security
Discussed Perianesthesia’s liability with regards to managing patient lockers in the waiting room. When locker issues arise, Scott recommended the following:
- Establish a policy for managing lockers to protect staff and maintain consistency.
- Call security (87777) as soon as family/friend become disruptive, unruly, or agitated.
- Have 2 witnesses when locker is opened with override code.
- If family member demands for multiple lockers to be opened, state that after midnight the lockers are cleared and items are sent to security’s lost-and-found. They can call security to retrieve the items at that time.

- Recommended speaking with Emily Weber (UCH attorney). She would approve
the amendment to the Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities and the language for
the sign placed on the lockers.
UCH Attorney - Emily Weber
- Since Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities is a hospital-wide document, Perianesthesia cannot amend the document for the patient lockers.
- Perianesthesia can place a sign stating that UCH is not responsible for items lost or stolen.
- Send copy of sign to attorney for approval.
