POUR Outcomes
POUR Remediation
In November, I created a poster based on the POUR pretest results. I graphed out the PACU nurses' responses, which showed what the majority of nurses assumed and the actual correct answer.
PACU nurses read the results, which reeducated them on POUR concepts. To demonstrate learning, nurses answered two questions on POUR, including the bladder volume that is considered urinary retention and the minimum amount a patient should void.
All 42 active PACU nurses completed the remediation; every nurse scored 100%.

Examples of POUR Remediation Questions
After reviewing the poster and completing the remediation questions, PACU nurses signed the attendance record.
POUR Chart Audits
From March to June, I performed chart audits to assess the efficacy and appropriate use of the POUR algorithm by nurses and the new order by physicians.
My audits targeted patients discharged home the day of surgery who were at a high risk for POUR.
