Stroke Champions
UCH Stroke Champions is an interdisciplinary team composed of inpatient nurses, outpatient nurses, dietitians, radiologists, social workers, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists. With a multidisciplinary approach, the goal is to spread knowledge and skill to best treat stroke patients hospital-wide. Meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 1200-1300. We review stroke alert data, educational points, and evaluate ways to improve care for stroke patients.
Through my involvment as a Stroke Champion, I sought to improve stroke alert competency in the PACU. During the year, I participated in a stroke education presentation, hung stroke alert signage throughout the perioperative area, reeducated at staff meetings, and taught PACU nurses how to use the new swallow screening tool.
